Hot Weather Safety Notice for Cleaning Staff

Extreme Heat Warning – Stay Safe While Working.

As temperatures increase, all cleaning staff are reminded to take extra precautions
to prevent heat-related illness.
What You Must Do
Drink plenty of water throughout your shift, even if you do not feel thirsty.
Take regular breaks in cool or shaded areas where possible.
Wear lightweight, breathable clothing, and any required PPE.
Avoid unnecessary physical exertion during the hottest parts of the day.
Use mechanical aids wherever possible to reduce manual effort.
Watch for Signs of Heat Stress
If you experience any of the following symptoms, stop work immediately and
inform your supervisor:
• Dizziness or light-headedness
• Headache
• Excessive sweating
• Muscle cramps
• Nausea or vomiting
• Fatigue or weakness
• Confusion or difficulty concentrating
Lone Workers
If you work alone, ensure you maintain regular contact with your supervisor or
manager and report any concerns immediately.
Supervisors
Please monitor staff welfare throughout the day and ensure adequate drinking
water and rest breaks are available.
Emergency
If anyone becomes confused, collapses, loses consciousness, or shows signs of
heat stroke:
1. Call 999 immediately.
2. Move them to a cool place.
3. Remove excess clothing.
4. Cool them with water, fans, or cold compresses.
5. Stay with them until help arrives.
Your health and safety come first. If you feel unwell due to the heat, stop
work and report it immediately.
