April 2025 Local Heroes

Every day, individuals among us go above and beyond, making a significant difference in our workplace and community. We have been celebrating our Local Heroes for nearly four years, and each of these individuals exemplifies the values we stand for at Glen.

While our managers highlight the incredible efforts of our Local Heroes each month, we want to encourage every team member to get involved in 2025. We are delighted to continue receiving nominations!

Dorothy Johns - Alderman Knight

Karen Dodsworth received the following feedback from our Client Anna at Alderman Knight:“Dorothy goes above and beyond to help us in the Food Technology department. It's the messiest department in the school and with two full room to clean Dorothy always does it with a smile. She works so hard and quietly gets on with her job, so nobody notices how hard she works.

She will always pop ingredients away in the fridge if a pupil or I has left them out by accident and when I come in early in the morning both rooms are immaculate and ready for the day. I never need to worry that they will still be unclean. She will accommodate meetings in both rooms if she needs to and swaps around to enable us to do this.

This helps me no end and means that I can set up the equipment and ingredients for that day before pupils arrive” Karen added: “Dorothy is always willing to help and work overtime to make sure the school is cleaned. She’s never late, she never takes time off, and she goes above the cleaning Standards with a personal touch”

Jackie Barrell said:

“In January, despite a high number of absences, the cleaning team worked tirelessly to ensure the school was clean and ready each day. I thanked them at the time, but I want to express my appreciation once again for their dedication and hard work.”

Angela Draper - Ilsleys Primary School

Miss House wrote:

“I am writing as Headteacher of The Ilsleys Primary School for 16 years.  I have had the absolute pleasure of having Angela Draper working for me since I began my career as a Headteacher and am so grateful for her dedication to this post.

Angela (Angie!) has been an unsung hero!

Angie has had some difficult times in her life but has only ever taken minimal time off work to hurry back to do her job!  She really cares about me and my school.  She is locally held with high regards for her commitment to the school.  In the time she has been working for me she has never been off sick – with the one exception.

She is conscientious, hardworking and absolutely wants the best for us as a school and is a credit to any employer.

Angie is definitely someone I think should be deserved of this award!”

Angie's Manager Ruth wrote:

”she truly is an ‘inspiration’ not only as a great employee but in her own personal life. I am so fortunate to have her as part of my team. Thank you Angie!”

Mark Gillett - Gwent Police (Multisite)

Tony Williams, Site Delivery Manager for Gwent Police, has shared consistently positive feedback regarding Mark’s performance across the sites he supports. Tony noted:

"He is honest, punctual, and well respected by all individuals."

Since the beginning of the contract in April last year, Mark has actively participated in every site audit and consistently gone above and beyond—frequently attending out-of-hours crime scenes and taking on a range of duties with dedication and professionalism.

Tony further commented on the superb service Mark has delivered, reflecting the high regard in which he is held by Gwent Police and reinforcing the value he brings to the team.

Mark's commitment and contribution are greatly appreciated.

Sharon Kosters (Site Manager)

Kim Stevens, Business Director received a glowing thank you from a troubled site with reference to Sharon Kosters, the client said:

“The second thanks is for sending us Sharon who has, again, had a hugely positive impact on both the onsite team’s and our perception of Glen.  Sharon has visited us weekly and taken time to get to know each of the team and the site.

Each time she has been able to offer tweaks that have improved their working lives.

By way of example, last night Stacey mentioned her vacuum was shocking her!  Sharon went straight out to her car, got her PAT tester and found the problem.  It was the power cable, not the machine itself.  She mothballed the machine until a new cable can be sent over.  It may sound a little thing, but it is only because of Sharon taking the time to understand how the team operate and developing a relationship with the team that they felt comfortable bringing it up.  I have many very positive examples I can share about Sharon’s impact if you need a list.”

“So, please accept my thanks and gratitude for the efforts, time and patience of Lucy and Sharon.  They have turned this account around in a very short period of time.  Please communicate our gratitude to Sharon”.
